Some firewalls create checksums of program data, and check these every time a program connects to the internet.

F) Check if you are facing a DNS resolving issue- Use 'nslookup' first to determine if there is a DNS resolving issue. 'nslookup' is the name of a program that lets an Internet server administrator or any computer user enter a host name (for example, 'www.acclaim.com') and find out the corresponding IP address. It will also do reverse name lookup and find the host name for an IP address you specify.

Press 'Start' and click on 'Run', in the empty box type in 'cmd',

In the black window that appears type the following -

nslookup 2moons.acclaimdownloads.com

64.93.92.5, 64.93.92.5, 64.93.92.8

If you receive the above response it indicates that you do not have a DNS resolving issue, Skip the below steps and proceed to the next step.

If you receive a 'DNS request timed out.' it usually indicates a DNS resolving issue if you are entering the correct host name. Try the steps below -

Hard set your ISP's DNS address (for DHCP connections) -

Before proceeding, make a note of the DNS servers (use these while entering DNS Addresses below) and IP address, access this website to obtain steps - http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahse.html

12. 2Moons Crashes or Disconnects

Disconnections could be caused due to various reasons ranging from -

-low system specifications which do not meet the game's requirements,

-network hardware, unstable internet connection (faulty hardware or settings, usually you will experience disconnection issues will all other internet programs too if you have faulty hardware, you must contact your ISP in this case),

-network conditions, lost packets, ISP, gateways, nodes

-incompatible or outdated drivers,

-skill spamming (sometimes causes your system to crash due to overload), server traffic (sometimes the server maybe reaching its limit which is temporary) .

-The connection to our server may also be interrupted if another person, tries to log into your account while you are logged in (maybe a hacker or a friend who has your account information). Please contact our chat support team if you suspect this.

Try the following troubleshooting steps in this sequence -

A) Check your system information-

Right-click the 'My computer' option which can be found under the 'Start' button or on the desktop and click on 'properties' and ensure that your system meets the minimum or recommended specifications. If your memory is 512MB, We recommend you upgrade it to at least 1GB.

B) Reduce your 2Moons graphics settings-

Launch the game, after you have logged into the server press the 'Esc' key on your keyboard and choose options. Click on the tab 'Graphic', remove the ticks from all the options/effects from the window and reduce the quality. Do the same under the tab 'Graphics II'.

C) Uninstall and reinstall the game using the following steps–

Click on 'START’, Click 'Control Panel'. Click 'Classic View' towards the left, Open 'Add/Remove Programs' (for Vista click on 'Programs Features'). Look for '2moons' in the list of programs and click on 'Remove'. Delete all shortcuts and the default directory (c:\program files\acclaim\2moons)

To perform these steps - Press 'START' and click on 'Run', In the empty box, type in - 'C:\Program Files\Acclaim', Press 'OK',

Delete the directory '2moons', Be careful not to delete any other folder in the directory 'Program Files'.

Reinstall the game again. If you encounter any installation issues, Re-download the client and install the game.

D) Close any resource intensive application or programs running in the background.

Sometimes other network intensive programs on your system which use bandwidth or high system resources may also cause disconnections. (eg- download managers, file sharing or p2p software, multimedia software)

E) Scan your system for Spyware and Viruses using the latest Anti-spyware and Anti-virus software, Viruses and spyware often cause/affect internet malfunction.

F) Check if any process is causing the issue-

Sometimes there may be a process running in the background that conflicts with the game. By closing the processes one by one, we can find out if a certain process is causing a conflict or affecting the game and stop the process from starting with windows by using the msconfig tool.

Use Task Manager to check if any process is causing the issue by disabling them. Check if the game works after closing one process, if you are unsuccessful try the next until you check all the processes. If you are successful, use 'msconfig' to remove or disable the process from starting with windows (We recommend you do not try this step without the help of an expert or any support if you are not an experienced user).

If you are unsure of a process, use this link to check for detailed information or analyze what the function of the process is (you must enter the name of the process into the website)- http://www.file.net/process/index.html

G) Restart your modem/router and Computer, use the ipconfig /flushdns command-

The ipconfig /flushdns command provides you with a means to flush and reset the contents of the DNS client resolver cache. During DNS troubleshooting, if necessary, you can use this procedure to discard negative cache entries from the cache, as well as, any other dynamically added entries.

Press 'Start' and click on 'Run', in the empty box type in 'cmd',

In the black window that appears type the following -

ipconfig /flushdns

H) Update your network card, sound card and graphics card drivers

Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your network hardware. If you are sure you have the latest driver, Try uninstalling it using the following steps (windows will automatically install your network driver after you restart your system)-

Click on 'Start', Right click the 'My computer' icon, click on 'Properties', click on the 'Hardware' tab, click on the 'Device Manager' button (for Vista look for the 'Device Manager' option towards the left after clicking on 'Properties'). Look for 'Network Adapters' in the list and click on the '+' sign before it to open, Look for your network card name followed by 'NIC'. Right click on it and click on 'Uninstall', restart your system.

I) Check if your anti-virus or firewall is causing the issue-

Check if your anti-virus or firewall is causing the issue by disabling or uninstalling them temporarily. Some software firewalls are resource intensive, however they rarely cause disconnections. We do not recommend uninstalling the firewall if you are not an experienced user or cannot reinstall it.

Disabling the firewall may render your system vulnerable to malicious programs on the internet!

J) Update your router's firmware (We recommend you contact your router manufacturer for assistance if you are not an experienced user)

K) Ensure that your power settings do not disable your network card/hardware on battery mode. (mostly for Laptops)

L) Check if your wireless connection/hardware is causing the issue.

If you are using a Wireless LAN connection, please connect/hard-wire your computer directly to your router/DSL modem using an ethernet cable to ensure that your WLAN is not the cause of the issue. If your connection is improved after using a cable, try updating your Wireless router firmware and your Wireless network hardware's drivers.

M) Reset Your Router after contacting your Internet Service Provider.

If your internet connection is a PPPOE connection or requires to be configured, we recommend you contact your Internet Service Provider before performing a reset.

N) Use a different Router or NIC.

(This step is only for Advanced users or experts, do not try this step if you are inexperienced) Try using a Different router or Network card to check if your Network hardware is causing the issue or if you still disconnect. If you have a built in NIC on your motherboard you may try installing an additional PCI Network Interface Card.

O) Change your NIC settings.

Some Network Cards have additional settings which if changed may help prevent disconnection, we however do not recommend changing these settings as you must remember to revert back to the original settings if you face disconnections with other games or after a new patch.

Checksum Offload setting - Note that this option may be available only with some NIC hardware (eg- NVidia Network Hardware) and may not be available for your NIC. The NIC in the image below does not have the Checksum Offload setting, however has been created for explanation purposes only.

Right click on it and click on 'Properties, click on the 'Advanced' tab and look for 'Checksum Offload', change the setting to 'Disabled'

P) Defragment your Hard-Drives -

Sometimes your Hard Disk information may be fragmented (files split/broken and stored in different parts of your drive) causing slow response and performance. The process of defragmenting can be time consuming, but will ensure that this is not the cause of your disconnection.

To start the defrag utility, click on the 'Start' button, click 'All Programs', click 'Accessories' , click 'System Tools' and 'Disk Defragmenter'.
